Reference price of ruthenium metal
Ruthenium reference price: 8680.70 USD/kg
Ruthenium is a member of the platinum group metal and a rare transition metal, with a content of only one part per billion in the Earth's crust. In 1844, Russian scientist Karl Ernst claus discovered this element at Kazan National University, and later used his hometown of Ruthenia as the Latin name for this element.
Ruthenium is the least abundant platinum element in the Earth's crust and the last discovered platinum element. It was discovered more than 100 years after platinum was discovered, 40 years later than other platinum series elements.
Important features: light gray, strong fire resistance, hard and brittle
Main producing countries: Russia, North America, South America, and Canada
Important use: Ruthenium is commonly used in electronic products. It is cheaper than rhodium and has very similar properties, usually used in the production of electrical contacts, wires, and electrodes. It is also used as a catalyst in electrochemistry. Another new use is as a cover layer for extreme ultraviolet light masks.
